No, not a reason, but definitely an explanation. Players like Torrealba don’t do this sort of stuff completely unprovoked.

I’d really like to know what the ump said to him. I’m not defending what Torrealba did but what was said had to have been pretty bad to get a reaction like that.

He represents MLB and it is the equivalent of an off field incident, but depending how close the Venezuelan winter league is with MLB it could be considered an on field incident and he should get some sort of punishment. Regardless of where it was, it was assault.

Can’t imagine they’d suspend their backup catcher for something that happened in a Venezuelan winter league. They’ll probably touch base with him and say “Hey…don’t smack any umps” and it’ll be over with.
