The thing is, just last year they gave a stupid 3 year 45 mil contract to Soriano. They did not need help in that department at all, but the brass strong-armed Cashman into doing it. If they're worried about the increased taxed rates for 2014, this signing would have absolutely no bearing on that. A relatively cheap 1 year contract for a pretty good arm is right up their alley. Why are they penny pinchers all of a sudden? It just doesn't make sense on the Yankees' part.

That's funny. The Angels cruising towards a best record. By adding a highly over-rated scrub like Wilson and having nobody in the lineup to offer much support to Pujols? There is a reason why only the sorry ass Mariners, almost as sorry ass Twins and the light hitting White Sox scored fewer runs in the AL than this Angels team last year in the AL.

Their offense was putrid and only gets upgraded to mediocre at best with Albert.

On second thought maybe Kuroda could teach Beckett a thing or two about efficiency so I don't have spend 3 hours watching him sort of get through 5 innings pitched.

They didnt go broke - their just streamlining their business. Think about it.

The Yanks' inaction this offseason is all about not paying luxury tax bills. Usually they make an offseason acquisition to excite the fan-base and that (at least in their eyes) validates them hiking up ticket prices yet again. Now that they realize that they cant hike ticket prices up any higher, their going to squeeze as much money out of other places as they possibly can. This means not spending on free agents and eventually getting under the luxury tax threshold over the next few years.

It all comes down to the almighty dollar. George was obsessed with winning and threw money at every problem the yanks ran into (sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt) but he was never afraid to spend. Hal has clearly brought a more business-oriented, bottom-line approach to running the team and it has perplexed the fan-base and agents/execs alike.

All that being said, there is NO reason why they shouldnt go after Kuroda. Sure hes comin from the natl league and hes a little old, but hes a lefty who gets guys out, and all he wants is a short term deal. Since when do the yanks care about $12M?

Keep in mind im saying all this as a die-hard yankee fan. Im just frustrated at a team who charges $35/game for parking and $12/beer and does not make improvements to a team that has a glaring hole in the rotation.
