UPDATE: Darren Oliver, Blue Jays reach a one-year deal with a club option for 2013

Getty Images UPDATE: T.R. Sullivan confirms the deal. It’s a one-year deal with a club option for 2013.
3:14 PM: Evan Grant reports that Darren Oliver is poised to sign with the Blue Jays.
The terms are still unknown, but Oliver made $3.25 million last year and all he did was have the best season of his career at age 41. And of course he’s a left hander, and lefty relievers all have Lazarus Pits that help them live forever, so he may as well sign a ten year deal. Dollar-for-dollar, it will probably work out better for the Jays than A-Rod’s is for the Yankees.

Not if this magical German knee surgery works as well as the Yankees hope.

Lazarus Pits?? I read that and all I could think of was armpit stains that refused to go away. I’m not sure if I’m dumber or smarter now that I read the wikipedia link…
As to Darren Oliver, if used for one or two outs in key situations then he’s a plus signing. If they plan to throw him out there for 2+ innings like they used to do with Dotel then I’m bracing for a long and disappointing season.

The Jays need a lefty in the pen and Oliver is a perfect fit for their needs. The stealth GM strikes again.

The Jays would not have signed Oliver under the old CBA as they would have lost a draft pick. Under the new CBA signing Oliver does not cost them a draft pick.

He helps the jays
But they still need a starter and a bat to fit in the 4-5 slot

The stealth GM is still working the phones. Would you be satisfied with King Felix or Lincecum?

The best part of this signing is the fact that Oliver has been in the playoffs six straight years, with three different teams. Is this a harbinger of October baseball in 2012 for the beaver boys?

Thje Jays appear to have signed another lefty (Aaron Laffey) to a split contract. The Jays did need some left handers in their pen.

Once again, why did Wash take out Feliz and bring in Oliver for the 10th inning of Game 6?
