Abso-freakin-lutely, wardmanone. To those begrudging an athlete for how much money they are making, consider how much the top actors (i.e. Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, etc…) make for their craft, it’s all exactly the same relevance. People pay good money to watch them do their thing, they have a talent that most of us don’t and are paid handsomely for it. If it doesn’t go to Albert Pujols, it goes to Arte Moreno.

Obviously, Arte thinks the gamble is worth it–and it probably will be for him. Look at all the buzz his Angels are getting this offseason and how excited the Angels fans are as they anticipate Spring Training. Good for Arte and good for Albert. And oh yeah, good for Bill DeWitt and the Cardinals too…they knew they don’t have the TV contract that Moreno has, yet they know they’ll still have a competitive team and they know that St. Louis fans will still pour into Busch Stadium to watch their favorite baseball team play because they’ll still compete well.

Who freaking cares what kind of good works he does for Jesus. This has nothing to do with Jesus, he signed a contract to whoever paid him the most money. St louis chose not to sign him because he was not going to be worthy of that kind of money after 5 maybe six years at the most. Don’t worry st Louis there’s a bible thumper out there willing to take his place, as a matter of fact you can borrow our resident God guy Tim Tebow if you would like. He’s going to fold like a chair tomorrow so he will be free till at least July

I guess I need to understand here we are upset that an employee took more money from another employer and we are upset with him because we felt he owed it to past employer and fans? Would anyone realistically turn down more money and security from another employer if offered it? The Owners wouldn’t pay the employee unless they could afford it unless of course you are the Mets-Dodgers

Still don’t understand the outrage over what he’s making.

1.) Kobe Bryant is making $25M, $27M and $30M over the next 3 seasons in the NBA in Los Angeles and I do not see people up in arms or even batting an eyelash over it. And he is well known to be past his prime.

Is Albert not the equivalent of a Kobe Bryant/Shaq/LeBron type player?

2.) The present day value of those last few years is not as outlandish as we think it will be. Remember when $20M a year in baseball was out of this world 7-10 years ago? $30M in 10 years will feel more like $22-25M due to inflation and escalating player costs.

It is a lot, no doubt, but it will not be crippling the Angels as much as people think.

Ask the owners or the fans, they are the ones pushing the boundaries of profits off of baseball entertainment and the ones willing to spend such outrageous prices for tickets, parking, concessions, and cable packages.

The money is being generated by the talent on the field, they are the ones most deserving of that money….everyone else is just facilitating, and while they should get paid, there is no logical basis for concluding that they should make more than the talent.

Of all pro athletes that get these insane contracts, Pujols is one that deserves it most. I don’t agree salaries need to be that much though. Who is paying for it ? FANS. MAKES ME SICK LOOKING AT ALL THE $$$ wrapped up in 1 ballplayer knowing it gets much worse until fans stay home. I’ll find a college team I can take my kid to see 20xs next year and spend a fraction of what it will cost to see two mlb games.

The reality is that during Pujols entire career, he wont be the highest paid player for even 1 year as I suspect during the back end of this contract there will be atleast another player who’ll be making more than his 28-30 million per year.

Having watched Pujols in St. Louis I know a lot of that money will be going to the Dominican Republic where it will do a lot of good. He missed the Cardinals visit to the White House in 2007 because he was in the DR with doctors from St. Louis. A dentist that went with Pujols on a trip there talked about how active he is with his foundation and that it’s not just a tax write-off.

I know it’s easy to take shots at him and his wife for leaving St. Louis but for all that he does I don’t begrudge him one bit.

Since we’re missing $14M from the originally announced contract, maybe he gets a $600K non-performance enhanced bonus for every test he passes. If the current testing regimen continues, that works out about right.
