It appears that Laffey was signed to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. He is not on the major league roster but will have the opportunity to make the team.

If the Jays defense is better than I think it is, this could be an alright signing if Laffey doesn’t get taken deep too much. Not worthy to write home about, but I think an alright signing.

Meh. Whatever. His splits, rights vs lefites, are nothing special. He showed some signs last season of being able to get outs to the point that his ERA dropped under 4, but really, 10IP? Need I say more. Wants to be a starter, eh? Right. And I want to be Minka Kelly’s boyfriend: neither one of us is replacing Jeter or anyone else who trots out for the first inning of a ballgame. I hope he can live with the disappointment.

He may begin spring training as a starter, but I am sure that he is aware that his only chance to pitch for the Jays will be in the bullpen. The Jays could use another lefty in the pen.
