No way he’s going to the Sox. They have too many DH/1B types, and they actually have several viable young catchers in Salty (not even going to try and spell that off the top of my head) and Lavarnway, with Lavarnway actually receiving several comparisons to Napoli, not saying he’s going to slug .610 but hes a very good bat for a catcher. Cubs have Soto as said before, so I’m pretty sure those two are out.

Scioscia couldn’t get Napoli to listen. Plus, Napoli is a cancer in the clubhouse. A great hitting cancer, but a cancer nonetheless. He’s sort of a Gary Sheffield with pads.

No way he signs with Texas. He’s going to the Cubs or Red Sox. He’s going to cash out in a huge way. The summers in Dallas are hell on a catcher.

His slugging percentage was 2.5 times higher than Jeff Mathis. Jeff Mathis was chosen over Mike Napoli. Mike Scioscia is a smart baseball man. These are all facts, but…but I don’t know how they connect. Seriously, the only thing I can think of is Mike having secret feelings for Jeff, I bet money he keeps a picture in his back pocket of that cant-hit-anything catcher.

He would have had more RBI’s if he could have cracked the top 6 spots in the Texas lineup, but he couldn’t. So by the time he got up to bat there was no one on base. He isn’t a 1 or a two hitter, and he isn’t going to bump Hamilton, Cruz, or Beltre from the 3/4/5 spots, and Young rounds out the 6th spot.

Pretty awesome stats for 2011. There might be some debate as to whether that was a breakout year or just a really good one, but his numbers look solid (offensively, anyway). If he can hold onto the defensive improvements, I would think the Rangers need to think hard about a pretty rich deal. I realize that they have a lot of negotiations coming up in the next two years, but that is part of the price of success.

It would be hard not to pay him.
