Yes, they could use a starting guy, but remember last year, the birds seemed to be in serious trouble without Wainwright, and during the year, were able to improve the staff and look where it got them. A new Reds starter could come from the minors, or a trade during the year. Still the guys they ave now are solid, not counting Arroyo. Cueto-Latos-Bailey-Leake-Chapman (possibly) and Bronson. They look solid to me. I would like to have one more although.

I'd love to know in what strange universe of sports that it's better to take a 1 year 8.5 million dollar deal as opposed to a reported 4 year 44 million dollar deal. Basically, if he completely stinks this year, his next deal is going to be nowhere near what the Phillies were probably offering him. I'm not saying the Phillies didn't overpay a bit for Papelbon, but I still think Madson comes out on the raw end of this all around.

Wait, what is the insanity? This is a great deal for the Reds. They get a top closer for a low price, and all of the long term risk is borne by the player, not the team. Madson might get a big paycheck next off-season if 2012 goes well, but if he gets injured or pitches poorly this season, he has just lost out big time.

It is obvious that the Reds are ALL IN for 2012. They have to make a big splash this year, or lose Brandon and maybe Votto next year. Those guys want to be on a winning team. I am not sure that they can afford to sign everyone they want next year, but this is a great move by Walt to get a chance to beat the Cards. If the can win in 2012, or at least get into the series, who knows where they can go from there. Good job Walt.

Basically, don't be the fans that make a professional sports player the multi-millionaire that he is because his wife just doesn't think thats cool. She just can't stand fans coming up to Ryan and patting him on the back or saying good job or daring to ask for his autuograph. It annoys the little gal. JUST DON"T DO IT!!!!!
