Bud’s a little young to start for the Giants. But without Tejada or Cabrera on the roster this year they may be forced to promote Selig as part of a youth movement.

Selig is terrible at PR (for example, the idiotic steroids issue that nobody cares much about in other team sports) and hopefully whoever succeeds Bud in 2037 will be better at that.

But objectively, baseball has never had such an effective commissioner — Judge Landis included. 28 of 30 teams in new or renovated ballparks, attendance and revenues at all time highs, an unprecedented stretch of labor peace, the return of baseball to the nation’s capital, better playoff format, steadily improving scheduling format, MLB Advanced Media, etc.

You can think the guy is a tool on a personal level, if you want. But the track record of success is hard to argue with.

Sure, I find Selig annoying, but bad at his job? I don’t think so. Major League Baseball is making money hand over fist. Business is booming, even though the overall economy stinks. All the other sports have had big labor disputes recently, but baseball has had labor peace since 1994 and looks to have it for the foreseeable future. Some very sticky situations with owners seem to have been navigated without harming the sport. Lots of cities have been convinced to cough up public money for ballparks.

Remember, Selig works for the owners. He has done great by them, and he is getting rewarded with a big fat paycheck.

Bud is great at his job. He’s the owners’ mouthpiece and doesn’t make tough, or any, decisions. He’s good at not rocking the boat, and has been well rewarded.

Don’t blame Bud, blame the owners who keep hiring him.

And don’t blame the well-paid “white collar criminals,” by which I presume you mean corporate bosses. They serve at the mercy of shareholders, who surely enjoy the returns on their investment. If you meant politicians, they’re answerable to the voters, who surely enjoy pork-barrel politics.

There is arguably no one in America worse at their job then Bud Selig. Fitting he should be paid 440 times the median family income over the next two years. Quite in line with the compensation going to the other white collar criminals running this country into ruin.

I’m not sure why the owners think it’s a good idea to see Bud die in office. Not looking for a new commissioner now is just another blatant example of the short-sighted nature of those running baseball.

Call me cynical, but I think we now understand why Bud treats the Mets’ financial issues so much differently than Dodgers. Two more year at $20 million per year! Then again I could be wrong it may just be that McCourt is a total slime ball.
