Yeah, I guess it’s Steinbrenner’s moola so he’s going to have final say. I just hope he doesn’t become his father of the late 80′s early 90′s.

deathmonkey – Hal probably had the final say as he should have I have no doubt. But I believe it was at the insistence of Levine and based on the recommendation of Rivera that the deal happened.

WEDNESDAY: It was one year ago this month that Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner and agent Scott Boras worked out the deal that brought Rafael Soriano to the Bronx against GM Brian Cashman’s better judgment. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Steinbrenner and Boras met again to discuss another free agent pitcher: Edwin Jackson. Steinbrenner told the agent he’ll think about offering Jackson a deal.

No, it was Levine. Besides it sounds like Boras requested the meeting with Hal at the owners meeting. While he was there to talk to the Nationals about Fielder.

Don’t know about him being a “scrub”. But for Boras himself to compare Jackson to Lackey “The Slacker” and AJ “The Headcase” as he recently did even Boras can’t think to much of him.

Pitcher B - 3.0BB/9, 7.0K/9

difference between the two over 200 IP is 9 walks and 20 strike outs. Pitcher A = CC and B = Jackson. Jackson is hurt by his first few years and the huge discrepancy between IP*. He's a good pitcher and he's only 27. Would i give him $20M a year? Hell no. But he's not the scrub some people are making him out to be.

*CC is a horse who throws 240-250IP a year. Jackson has made 32 starts in 5 consecutive years, but it only amounts to about 200IP.

Jackson’s ERA looked nice last year, but his peripheral stats weren’t so pretty.

uyf1950…I couldn’t agree more. Jackson is a big hard throwing guy, but command has always been his problem, and when you already have a guy like AJ in your rotation can they afford to have two starters that may lose command at any time?

If it were my money I would think long and hard about signing him for anything more then 2 years. Especially in the case of the Yankees who have expressed a desire to get at or below the $189MM luxury tax threshold for 2014. I would much prefer the Yankees sign Kuroda or Oswalt to a 1 year deal then see who of the FA class of 2013 actually hits the market. As of today there are 3 possible FA in that class (Hamels, Cain and Greinke) that are heads and shoulders above Jackson and at least 2 Anibal Sanchez and Marcum that are better than him as well. At least a couple of these 5 have should still be available about 9 months from now, possibly all of them.

Jackson would certainly be any upgrade to the current planned rotation of: CC, Nova, Garcia, AJ and Hughes. But not a sufficient enough upgrade to sign at any price or cost. Besides, the Yankees have several “prospects” like Noesi, Phelps, Warren not to mention the 2 Killer “B’s just waiting in the wings for a chance. That would be a better option then signing Jackson to a long term deal.

Well in any case I’m sure we’ll find out something as to the Yankees real interest soon enough.
