Summer heat can be acclimated to, but is often devastating to infrequent visitors. In the playoffs and World Series, cold in northern climates is also a big factor, even in moderate St Louis. The Ballpark is quite a hitters park, so would help his stats, HOF chances, and have a good chance at WS play. Ryan undoubtedly points this out in negotiations, and may help sign him for a reasonable price. Convincing pitchers they can be successful pitching there is a tougher problem. Thats where Ryan is most useful.

This is terrible news. I’m holding out hope that somehow, some way, the stars will align just right and Prince will stay “home” with the Brewers for a few more years. I even promised God I’d quit doin’ stuff that reportedly kills kittens.

He would probably shed some of the excess baggage. I do think he is a better fit in the AL, guys his size don’t age well in MLB and the DH option is smart.

Rangers are very smart. They could really be serious about Prince or they could be using these talks as a negotiating tool with both Darvish and Hamilton on his extension. It’s up to Hamilton how far things go with Prince. If the Rangers don’t feel they can get the terms they want with him on an extension they will need a power hitter in that lineup starting in 2013. Might as well have a year with them both.

So, the Rangers have the cash to sign both Darvish and Fielder. This would, in turn, make them one of the favorites to win the World Series. Never mind that, as the 2-time defending AL champions, they’re among the favorites already.

Don’t look now, but the center of MLB overspending may be moving south and west. Perhaps, the Ghost of George Steinbrenner has inhabited Nolan Ryan.

I meant it more of a hyperbolic statement, but I forgot my audience. The creative interpretation and re-interpretation of honest irony & innocent hyperbole available on-line is often beyond the scope of a mere mortal like myself. Suffice to say that I feel a Rangers squad featuring Fielder in its lineup won’t get too many arguments as a “team to watch”.

I predict that the Las Vegas book makers will see it my way too.

The Cubs just traded for Anthony Rizzo, who’s supposed to be the real deal, so they don’t need Prince. I guess they could use the big guy for a year while Rizzo gets ready, but Prince surely wants a long-term deal, so that’s out. Not to mention that the Cubbies are rebuilding, and now is hardly the time to hand out a big contract. Also, see WhenMattStairsIsKing’s post.

The Rangers make sense. They could use him. Typical of the Rangers to have to bludgeon teams to death. Their pitching is still suspect. ‘Whirling’ Darvish is an unknown, especially in Dallas around the time August arrives. Cecil’s boy is gonna lose some strength. North Texas in the dead of summer is no place for the feint of heart.

If Fielder’s price drops enough, this will be that “nail in the coffin” move that will earn The Rangers everyone’s pick for WS champ, 2012. Boras could easily strike a team friendly deal with the Rangers. A WS ring or 2 to go with his usual stats would make a free agent Fielder look like the next Albert Pujols Contract winner in 3 years.

I thought Tom Hicks sold the Rangers a couple of years ago! Deals with Boras for guys like A-Rod and Chan Ho Park are part of what bankrupted that franchise.
