Tyler Greene could start at second base for the Cardinals

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak told reporters back in November that Daniel Descalso had a leg up on starting second base duties.

But the 25-year-old is far from locked into that role.

According to B.J. Rains of Fox Sports Midwest, Mozeliak said Saturday at the Cardinals’ Winter Warm-Up that Tyler Greene “will get every chance” to win the everyday second base job this spring.

Greene has played primarily at shortstop since being selected 30th overall in the 2005 MLB Amateur Draft, but Rafael Furcal was brought back on a two-year, $14 million contract this winter and will be in the starting lineup whenever he’s healthy.

Greene, 28, batted .323/.422/.579 with 14 home runs and 19 stolen bases in 66 games last year at Triple-A Memphis. Mozeliak called him an “unbelievable talent” when addressing fans at Saturday’s Warm-Up.

No reason it shouldn’t be a competition.
Though there is prolly plenty of AB’s for all with platoons, Furcal’s injury history, and Skippy helping in the OF.

They’ve really have no choice but to give him an extended look, he’s out of options.

I am going to comment here – not because I care about the Cards, but because it is absolutely disgusting that the football blog gets way more comments on absurd posts than Hardball.

Here is my post. Count it.

What is disgusting is the quality of the comments on football blogs….they’re trolltastic. It is impossible to have a discussion, debate, or exchange of ideas over there….not to mention the heavy-handed moderation that regularly occurs if anyone dare to disagree with a point-of-view of the blogger.

Do you ever venture to ProBasketballTalk? The blogs themselves have the grammatical integrity of teenage girls texting.

Nope, the only other boards I visit are pro and college football and hocky….the only place I even bother to read the comments is on prohockey, where I figure I might learn something….the NHL lost me for several years before the strike season (competitive imbalance will do that) and I am just starting to return to hockey as a fan.

Quality over quantity is a fact at HardballTalk.

Tyler Greene couldn’t fall out of a boat and hit water no matter what position he plays. I’m hoping Kolten Wong blows through the farm system and solidifies this position for years. Some players just can’t make the transition from AAA to the bigs!
