Prince would be signed now at 5 yr/$100 million. He wants 10 years, $200 million. I think he will come in for 7-8 years at $150-$160 million. The question is where. I hope the Rangers sign him, it means the Nationals wont.

Climate could be an issue in Arlington. Hotter than death there in the summer. I’m not sure how the culture would make a difference unless he plans to eat himself to death on Tex Mex.

Igwelsh, 5@20 million? At that price he’d have a DOZEN teams interested. Inluding the Yankees. All the teams they’ve spoken to want fielder, but not for 10/250 million. My point is is that if fielder lowers his contract demands, it won’t be so easy for the rangers to sign him. There will be traffic congestion.

As a neutral observer…even if they sign Fielder, it’ll be a neck and neck race with the Angels next year. Those are going to be some games to watch.

The Rangers should have a look at Prince but this is the thing, Prince will be coming to the American league where he doesn’t know the pitching or the ball parks that well. He also would be moving to the south west where it is a completely different culture and climate than what he is used too. Not to mention he won’t have the comfort of the fans he has gotten so used too in Milwaukee.

The other side of the coin is that he is 27 years old and could be moved into a DH position down the road which would prolong his player career. I’m sure that is a big part of the Rangers interest. Prince is good for 35+ homers with 100+ RBI for the next 2-3 years. Prince’s lifetime average is .282 and is a power hitter for the most part. I don’t see his bat speed improving so he will likely be a .250-.260 25HR hitter 5 years from now.

He is not worth 200 million, not even close to what he is asking. If the Rangers can get him for 100 million for 5 years that’s more than fair.

Yes, but last year’s standing don’t have much to do with next year’s standings if the teams have a changed a bunch. I’d give the Rangers an edge, and a bigger one if they get Darvish AND Fielder, but I was responding to the guy who said the division would be a laugher. I personally doubt that’s true even if the Rangers get Fielder, because while it was a laugher last year, the Angels have improved a ton for 2012.

Agreed. It’s hard to handicap since the Rangers were way ahead and the Angels have improved so much, but adding Fielder probably makes the Rangers favorites again. Great race either way!

I agree the Angels have improved more but the Rangers had 10 games up on them last year. If the Rangers add Fielder, Darvish & Feliz both pitch to their potential & Nathan is healthy and productive I still think the Rangers have the advantage. It will be a great race for sure.

Getting Darvish and losing Wilson is a wash at best. Fielder is pretty good…

… but Pujols is better. And instead of coming out maybe even on pitching, the Angels getting Wilson while losing, what, Joel Pineiro? That’s a huge win.

Obviously the Rangers were better last year, but even if Texas get Darvish AND Fielder, the Angels have improved more for 2012.
