I hear you Metal. Heisey should have been penciled into LF for the season. And if he wanted to give Freddie Lewis or Jonny “pine tar” Gomes a spot start here and their Heisey should have been moved to CF to replace the fastest guy in MLB to never get on base.
Point is…Heisey needs to be an every day player.
I just can’t figure out what Dusty has against the guy.

The same stuff happened when he came to St. Louis. Tony LaRussa, Todd Stottlemyre, Dennis Eckersley, Rick Honeycutt, (and Mark McGwire a bit later) all came with him in 1996.

it makes sense if dusty were like any other manager but since he is not ludwig will pretty much have to shoot somebody and spend time in jail for a while before dusty will take him out of the lineup. look how badly gomes played for over a year before he finally and reluctantly took him out of the lineup. I will only feel less sick about this move if dusty plays heisey in cenerfield should the strikeout machine continue to do so. another prime example of being a dusty guy,strikeout 5 times a game and in the lineup the next day.hit 3 homers in a game? have seat on the bench for a week.

The main thing to consider here is that the Reds do not have much left after the signing of the two pitchers. They need to be frugal and not waste what they have, and sign the best player for the resources remaining.

This is sort of a sideways type of move, however, the Reds do need help in the OF. That is one hole which glares through the rest of the lineup. I think they have 3rd base covered, but will need help there as Rolen is not going to last the season (if he is able to play much). But the outfield is weak in center (yes Stubbs is great on defense) and a question mark in left. So Ludwig seems like a move to fill in, where needed to hold a position when one of the guys goes into a slump, which will happen.

They could do what the Cardinals do with their washed up players. Instead of bringing them back to play, bring them back to Coach.

I feel you, man. Even as a Cardinal fan, I can feel the pain of Reds fans for moves such as this. As recently as 2 years ago, Ludwick was still productive…but as you said, this seems to be a waste of money as he isn’t any better than the guy he’s likely to replace.

I LOLed at the Ankiel reference, be careful…it could happen.

now do the right thing and let Heisey go to a team where he will have a fair shot at playing full time. that way you can afford ankiel and the reds transformation to the cincinnati red-cards will be complete. they can talk about his veteran presence all they want but his and all washed up cards they sign are ex cards for a reason and that is they suck.why a team would pay somebody 2 million dollars to put up less numbers than the guy he is replacing is just mind numbing.how long before he signs ozzy smith to be the starting shortstop? as a lifelong reds fan walt has made me not care what happens the team any more. I want to win but with reds players not cardinal rejects.

I wish the reds would bring in a center fielder just to compete with stubbs. Stubbs is a fast guy, but you cant steal first.
