He’d be younger by 3 years if he’s Carmona. Hence 22, not 25 (his actual age) when he broke into the Majors. Who wouldn’t want a 22 year old who could pitch like a guy with 3 more years experience? That’s pretty much why they all do it (except Leo Nunez/Jaun Carlos Oviedo: I thought he just did it to have a better name cause he was only a year younger as “Nunez”. The birth year change was only a slight advantage).

Hey if the Indians decide to void his contract I’m sure Jeffrey Loria and his GM Sampson wouldn’t mind having a another capable arm on their team. They’ve done it before. Plus I’m sure that there are other players in MLB who are playing with fake ID’s.

Looks like Juan Carlos Oviedo had the goods on Leo Nuñez & Fausto Carmona on Roberto Hernandez Heredia. Both guys must regret getting involved with they’re former identity, but it made them rich even with the stress of trying to remember who the hell they were most of the time. At least Jaun/Leo was only paying himself hush money (that we’ve heard). I think I’ll move to the DR and become “Hugo Universo”. I always knew I was meant for greater things…

It’s hard to believe that dozens of people knew the fake Carmona and the real Carmona all along while the Indians were totally clueless. I know there was a concerted effort to deceive but didn’t any of Heredia’s friends and teammates figure out that guy pitching for the Indians sure looks like familiar? It seems there had to a lot of people in on the deception for it to work as long as it did. Any team today that doesn’t send a Spanish speaking flunky to the DR for some due diligence deserves to get fooled.
