Angels among teams with interest in reliever Luis Ayala

From beat writer Alden Gonzalez comes word that the Angels are “one of four clubs” showing interest in free agent reliever Luis Ayala.

All four are offering major league contracts.

Ayala posted a cool 2.09 ERA in 56 innings last season for the Yankees after signing a minor league deal in February and earning a spot in the Opening Day bullpen at spring camp. There’s enough interest this time around for him to get a guaranteed spot.

Ayala, who turned 34 years old earlier this month, owns a 3.47 career ERA in seven big league seasons.

Why haven’t the Yankees resigned him?

because he can’t produce a valid birth certificate! Plus he can’t throw strikes and get left handed hitters out consistently. Anymore questions?

Because the Yankees already have the prerequisite number of arms in their bullpen:
    Mo Rivera
    David Robertson
    Rafael Soriano
    Boone Logan
    Cory Wade
Joba Chamberlain (when he returns from TJS-In June)

Either Hughes or AJ whichever doesn’t make the starting rotation and at least 2or 3 young arms just waiting in Triple A for their chance.

I think the Yankees just ran out of room for Ayala. I wish him luck and it would be nice to see him hook up with a team like the Angels who stand a good chance of going a long way this season.

      Thanks for the information.

Can’t wait to see if Joba comes back strong from the TJS. If he regains his old velocity, he will be a nice addition to the already great bullpen that the Yankees have assembled.

He sort of fizzled out at the end of the year too.
