I take it you aren’t a Tigers fan. Because we have 1 God-like pitcher in Verlander, a VERY GOOD number 2 in Doug Fister and a number 3 in Max Sherzer who is better than 85% of the number 2′s out there. I am pretty sure the pitching will hold up just fine.

Oh, and my bold ass prediction is Porcello finally gets consistent and his era gets under 4 and he will win 15 this year. Goin up against mostly other teams 4′s will be a shot of confidence for him

Those Tigers teams of the 90′s had absolutely no pitching whatsoever. Now we have a VERY good staff, so I don’t think we’ll be seeing any resemblance to the those teams

Brian, you are rather sensitive about this issue. I’m not disrespecting or making fun of non slim people. I’m simple saying Miggy’s defense at the hot corner will affect the pitching staff. You just proved my point by saying Miggy was moved to 1st because Inge was better defensively.

Has there been any instance ever seen or noted about either of these men eating a large amount of food? Like, a picture of them with a ton of food, or a comment about overeating.

Is there any reason Detroit couldn’t rotate Cabrera between 1B/3B/DH and Fielder between 1B/DH with Inge filling in at 3B in situations where defense on the left side is more important, and then, when V-Mart’s back, to prepare HIM to play 3B? Are his knees that bad that he couldn’t man 3B better than Cabrera?

In any case, I envision Leyland moving players around between positions like an NL club.

I have to think Detroit has some plan: remember the Tigers teams of the early 1990s with Cecil Fielder, Rob Deer, and Micky Tettleton? They hit a lot of homers but didn’t win a lot and weren’t that fun to watch. I hope they aren’t headed that way again.

On the other hand, since Fielder and Cabrera are among the very few morbidly non-prime physical specimens playing pro ball, and can’t very well be expected to criticize themselves, even though it’s a dirty job we understand that someone’s got to do it..

Incidentally, since none of these so-called safety experts and journalists and families of victims of the Costa Concordia ever commanded a multi million ton ocean liner before, they all ought to shut up and stop making fun of poor Captain Schettino, right?

i have read way more than one post regarding how this is an awful deal because of the defensive liability of those two on the corners, STRICTLY because of their weight.
What people fail to realize is, defense up the middle is generally the most critical to a team. 2nd base shortstop catcher and centerfield are generally regarded as the core of the defense. Leyland (and MANY others) has said that if the defense up the middle is strong, then you can live with it being not quite as strong on the corners.
The thing that REALLY irritates me, is the people that are bashing the living hell out of Miggy’s defense at 1st are people who CLEARLY haven’t seen him play, and have no f**king clue about how much he has improved over there since he came over. They check their little iphones and see how people rate according to sabermetrics and all that sh*t but have NEVER watched a Tigers game. all they see is Miggy is a big dude so he CAN’T POSSIBLY be a decent defender.

Also, Miggy was moved to 1st because Inge was WAY better defensively, but now Inge can’t hit over the Mendoza line so they probably figure it’ll be a difference of 8-12 runs defensively at 3rd and Prince will MORE than make up for that.

Personally I don’t care what they do with Cabrera, but he needs to go on a crash diet or he’ll wind up in traction trying to field balls at third base. The guy needs to drop at least 40+ lbs. Someone line him up with lap band asap.

Brian they are not “fat”, they are just incapable of playing any other position with any semblance of competency, hence why Miggy hasn’t played 3rd base regularly since his Marlin days. Prince wouldn’t be playing baseball if it wasn’t for 1st base.

I pray for the sake of Detroit’s pitchers, Miggy gets in better shape and moves to LF, cause I have a hard time seeing this IF as a whole as anything more than below average defensively.

Man do I love watching all the spurned fans of the other teams that were rumored to be THIS CLOSE to signing Prince flipping out. it shows the intelligence of these wonderfools when all they have to say is ‘uh, Miggy and Prince are fat, and uh they are so fat, uh, they look really fat’.

Frankly, i could give two sh*ts about their weight. When they each hit 35hrs, .300 average and drive in 120 runs, i am SURE the 12 year olds who are so clever with their fat jokes will be REALLY mad!
