No Len, don’t even try it. I am by no means a Giants fan “by accident” or even on purpose. Much like the Cowboys, any team playing the Patriots gets my support. I enjoy seeing them getting beat actually. As far as Eli being compared to A-Rod. Correct me if I’m wrong but don’t people generally like Eli? I don’t see the similarity at all. GO ELI!

Jeezus, it’s amazing how many premiere hitters were pulled from the NL to the AL over the last two years (Pujols, Fielder, A. Gonzalez).

Is there a risk of a serious structural imbalance occurring between the leagues in the upcoming years?

It used to be that only the Yankees distorted the market with their spending…then the Red Sox joined in…now all three divisions in the AL have sucked a premiere first baseman over to their side from the NL.

Things to ponder…

Giving elite money to non-elite players is just silly….and Fielder, while a sometimes elite hitter (2007, 2009, 2011), is generally not an elite (though very good) player because of his defense, baserunning, and inconsistency.

He’s never been a serious MVP candidate in a single season of his career. Never. And some idiot doles out this contract. Crazy. Good for Fielder.

He and Holliday are essentially the same offensive player (same OBP, same slugging, same wOBA, same wRC+), but Holliday can play defense and run….and people ripped the Holliday deal at $16.3M/year for 7 years…..a deal that continues to be a steal.

I like the deal for his bat. However, I am not sure what they are going to do when VMart comes back. At first I thought about Cabrera at 3rd. However, that would only work for this year as Castellanos is going to own 3rd come 2013. Something tells me that there is going to be a monster trade come either the deadline this year or in the off-season next year. The trade is going to be Cabrera or Martinez for a starting LH P to fit into the lineup and I have to think it is going to be Cabby.

Only two other players have gotten larger contracts in Baseball history.

Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols.

Fielder’s career high in WAR in 6.1 Pujols and Rodriguez have each topped that 9 times. Oh, and pretty much everyone agrees that the Pujols deal and the 2nd A-Rod are probably poor deals in the long term. Just don’t tell the Tigers that.

The only option, really, is to trade Martinez when he’s healthy. He’s the fourth wheel on the 1st base/catcher/DH triple date.

Clearly, the Tigers are the best in the AL Central. Sorry, Royals. I guess you’re never going to get your chance. The real question is, how do they stack up to the rest of the AL’s elite now?
