Miguel Cabrera is in the Best Shape of His Life

I share Aaron’s dubiousness about Miguel Cabrera playing third base for the Tigers.  And I laughed during the Prince Fielder press conference when Fielder said this:

“I’m confident in Miguel doing a good job. That’s where he started out, at third base.”

Which is why Chipper Jones will be playing shortstop for the Braves, Jim Thome will be playing third base for the Phillies and Rick Ankiel will be the opening day starter for the Nationals.

But maybe we shouldn’t mock.  During that press conference, Jim Leyland made an allusion to Miguel Caberea losing weight and being just fine at third base.  Then a recent picture of Miguel Cabrera — courtesy of his personal trainer Radhi Muhammad of 4.40 Fitness and Athlete Development — was forwarded to me.  Check this out:

Mercy me. Two tickets to the gun show, please!

I have no idea if that translates to better-than-expected play at third base. But I’m just sayin’, maybe we need to revise this whole “the Tigers infield is fat” thing. Because it doesn’t seem to apply to Miguel Cabrera at the moment.

This is a complete and total game-changer for the official 2012 BSOHL Roster:

    Miguel Cabrera
    Justin Smoak
    Dexter Fowler
    Jaime Garcia
    Miguel Tejada
    Aubrey Huff
    Vicente Padilla
    Carlos Zambrano
    Yonder Alonso
    Carlos Gutierrez
    Mark Teixeira
    Dmitri Young
    Yoenis Cespedes
Phil Hughes (not yet, but potentially)

Since Craig does not follow the Blue Jays very much, I want to nominate Blue Jay pitcher Brett Cecil to the BSOHL Roster. Cecil has lost more than 30 pounds this off season. He had bumped up to the 240 pound range last season.

This best shape of your life thing might be an inside joke or something, but it is really getting annoying to the point where s few people I know have already removed the app from their phones.

I call BS. There aren’t so many of these articles, and they aren’t offensive nor obscure.

And if people for some ionexplicable reason are actually leaving HBT in droves because of what’s not that inside a joke, I doubt they can handle any sports media.

    • lovesmesomeme - Jan 26, 2012 at 4:47 PM

Maybe you can remove your app as well.

Craig can’t stop. He’s in the best shape of his life.

Oh yeah by the way, theory is no way cabrera is in the best shape of his life. He looks big because, he has muscle and a lot of fat over it.

    • WhenMattStairsIsKing - Jan 27, 2012 at 1:48 PM

I wouldn’t call him fat anymore. Pretty sure he could knock you into next week.

Those guys look like bouncers. Now we await the pics of Prince in a T-shirt. How staggering a sight would that be: the corn rows, with arms the size of hams and no gut standing next to this incarnation of Miggy?

    That dude is a beast

  6. dgbk - Jan 26, 2012 at 4:19 PM

    lol @ mercy me

Based on what is easily available in a Google search, both in March 2010 and March 2011, Miguel Cabrera was trying to lose an extra ten pounds before opening day to try to get to the 255-260 range.

Hence, I’ll be skeptical until proven otherwise that he’ll be nimble enough to play third base again.

Well at least Cabrera has photographic evidence to justify his BSOL post. Then again, Panda lost a lot of weight too last year and gained it all by September, we shall see…

    Hey Miguel, call Jenny!

  10. butchhuskey - Jan 26, 2012 at 4:38 PM

Miguel Cabrera has a personal trainer? Since when?

  11. jwbiii - Jan 26, 2012 at 5:00 PM

Ivan Rodriguez: In “good shape,” not in BSOHL. Bummer, dude.

I think you’re all crazy, Miggy is about to go on a Brooks Robinson style run of gold gloves at 3B

  13. unclemosesgreen - Jan 26, 2012 at 5:54 PM

Watching Miggy’s glove butchery at 3rd will still be preferable to watching Brandon Inge swing a bat.

    • sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Jan 26, 2012 at 6:05 PM

      This!

  14. sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Jan 26, 2012 at 6:07 PM

Is that Hanley he is with? Maybe they are studying 3B together. Fantasy drafts will be CRAZY this year!

  15. crisisjunky - Jan 26, 2012 at 6:10 PM

Can you phoshop fat onto muscle or vise versa?

  16. marshmallowsnake - Jan 26, 2012 at 6:34 PM

    Well, he is wearing black.

  17. jcioffi1485 - Jan 26, 2012 at 6:58 PM

I recall when Cabrera was 5′ 10″ and weighed 180 lbs for the Marlins. His head alone must weigh 85 lbs

  18. detroitcityryda - Jan 26, 2012 at 11:00 PM

Looking at the fielder announcement today to me he looked like he has slimed down a little bit and is looking more buff.

  19. papacrick - Jan 27, 2012 at 2:49 AM

    Juicin bruh!

    • jwbiii - Jan 27, 2012 at 12:43 PM

His trainer is wearing a Ramirez shirt. . .

  20. shelbydawkins - Jan 28, 2012 at 1:44 PM

he could probably knock his wife into next week…
