The White Sox will wear throwback uniforms this year

Jan 26, 2012, 10:30 AM EDT

Given all of the bad uniform choices the White Sox made over the years, when I heard that they’d be doing throwback uniforms in 2012 my heart skipped a beat.  But it turns out that they’re going with a conservative and even tasteful choice:

I always liked those. Probably because I have a framed copy of this hanging on the wall of my lair here:

Nice going, Sox. Beats so many of the other options you could have gone with.

What year are the throwbacks from?

Do they wear Red socks or White socks?

  3. bobwsc - Jan 26, 2012 at 10:40 AM

if they added electric cigarettes to complete the get-up, then they’d really have something.

doesn’t this look a lot like one of the many Phillies uni’s?

Good thing they won’t play each other. Unless I’m botching the inter-league schedule.

This post is a win for use of the Dick Allen picture

  5. marshmallowsnake - Jan 26, 2012 at 11:54 AM

Will they get to have the butt hanging out of their mouth too?

  6. Kyle - Jan 26, 2012 at 12:00 PM

Dick Allen is the boss of all of us.

    • ncphilliesguy - Jan 26, 2012 at 4:04 PM

I met Dick Allen last week and he was fantastic. And I had always thought he was surly, I couldn’t have been more wrong.

He is my girlfriends fathers favorite player. He would be jealous.

    I liked those Uni’s.

  8. dadawg77 - Jan 26, 2012 at 12:30 PM

I want them to do the away version too.

  9. kopy - Jan 26, 2012 at 12:44 PM

I was kinda hoping for this set to come back, personally:

  10. WhenMattStairsIsKing - Jan 26, 2012 at 12:53 PM

They need to bring back wearing shorts. Those were horrific.

    • kopy - Jan 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM

They look like a softball team:

    • jdd428 - Jan 26, 2012 at 4:43 PM

Everyone always brings up the shorts. Yes, the shorts were bad. But guess what – you know how many times they wore the shorts? ONCE. They wore them for exactly one game – the first game of an August doubleheader in 1976. So, yeah, the shorts were bad – but GET OVER IT!

      • WhenMattStairsIsKing - Jan 27, 2012 at 1:51 PM

I’m not over it! I want them back!! NOW!!!!

      • Disney Mark - Jan 27, 2012 at 8:29 PM

They wore the shorts three times in 1976. August 8th in game 1 against the Royals, August 21st in game 1 against the Orioles and August 22nd in game 1 against the Orioles.

Bring back the road blues and its a homerun..

“If you wear it..they will come”

    • nelsonsaint - Jan 26, 2012 at 1:11 PM

      and these:

  12. jwbiii - Jan 26, 2012 at 12:58 PM

And I was hoping for these

    Not really, though.

    • bobwsc - Jan 26, 2012 at 1:58 PM

looks like athletic, island-wear. not to be confused with Frank Costanza’s “cruise-wear.”

      • jwbiii - Jan 26, 2012 at 2:47 PM

Except for the oh-so ’70s outsized collar, it looks like football coach training camp wear. I’d post a picture of Lovie Smith, another athletically built black man likely to be a wearing a Chicago shirt, but he favors NBA style baggy shorts which ruins the effect.

Trivia: That is the only MLB player to have his birthday on the back of his jersey.

      • bobwsc - Jan 26, 2012 at 3:27 PM

right on – those are ‘coaches shorts.’ complete with wedgie. odd that they went with the collar style from Shaft.

      • jwbiii - Jan 27, 2012 at 12:00 AM

So everybody knows the trivia answer? I am really impressed.
