Given all of the bad uniform choices the White Sox made over the years, when I heard that they’d be doing throwback uniforms in 2012 my heart skipped a beat. But it turns out that they’re going with a conservative and even tasteful choice:
I always liked those. Probably because I have a framed copy of this hanging on the wall of my lair here:
Nice going, Sox. Beats so many of the other options you could have gone with.

Everyone always brings up the shorts. Yes, the shorts were bad. But guess what – you know how many times they wore the shorts? ONCE. They wore them for exactly one game – the first game of an August doubleheader in 1976. So, yeah, the shorts were bad – but GET OVER IT!

They wore the shorts three times in 1976. August 8th in game 1 against the Royals, August 21st in game 1 against the Orioles and August 22nd in game 1 against the Orioles.

Except for the oh-so ’70s outsized collar, it looks like football coach training camp wear. I’d post a picture of Lovie Smith, another athletically built black man likely to be a wearing a Chicago shirt, but he favors NBA style baggy shorts which ruins the effect.
Trivia: That is the only MLB player to have his birthday on the back of his jersey.
