Haha I read (and post) over at DRB so I've seen the discussion (as Mish). I agree with that POV too; just saying there are some internal options.

Pena simply can't hit lefties, but he has maintained a near 14% walk rate against lefties the last 2-3 years (granted, that still leaves him with a god awful .260 OBP last year). But he was just slightly below average against lefties in 2010 (91 wRC+) and aboev average in 2009, so maybe there's some lightning to catch. Scott on the other hand has hovered right around league average his entire career (104 wRC+) so he could still probably hit in the lineup but lower.

There has been a lot of discussion about Guyer at DRays Bay. While many agree with you that Guyer is ready to contribute at the major league level, there are some who think the Rays do not want him to grow stale on the bench. It might be better to give him regular work at Durham where he can stay sharp and be ready to help the Rays should they need him later in the year.

Wouldn't Guyer make a nice platoon partner for Joyce? He's an advanced age for a prospect, but he's hit in the minors and plays a really solid OF.

I also thought Russ Canzler might be a nice platoon partner for Pena; I was sad to see him DFA'd today.
