I don’t think Lew is in any danger of being a real crime victim, Jonny, but I think he’s not necessarily safe from most of the A’s fans, who, at this point, are going to pick up their calculators to figure out how he arrived at the A’s “profit” of $ 360k in 2011 with a revenue sharing payout of $ 32M and attendance of 1.5M. The payroll ended at about $63M, so you do the math. Somebody was paying them self very, very well and calling that a salary, not a profit participation, for publicity reasons.

But from all accounts he is a decent guy. The real frustration isn’t what he wants to do. It’s his ineffective, apparently, way of doing it. And the fact that he’s personally pulling a lot of cash out of the team, apparently, at a time when the the team sucks monkeys and ticket prices remain absurdly high versus the quality of the product.

That ol’ value problem that pops up when a recession hit area like East Bay goes to thinking on how they’ll be spending their increasingly diminishing entertainment dollars. “Let’s see, I can spend $ 20 for 2 on a matinee of Kate Beckinsale in a tight leather suit or $ 100 to see a bunch of guys kick a ball around while another bunch of guys-not named Athletics- beats that same ball to death with a bat.” Many are opting for Kate Beckinsale.
