Just a small note: Phil Hughes is 25. If he’s already “not what they expected” then I’m giving up on baseball.

I’m not sure letting him sit a good portion of the time or letting him be the 5th man in a rotation is going to make that much difference in his trade value.

I think and it’s obviously just my opinion that most GM’s pretty much know what they get with AJ. In any case it won’t be long before we find out. See I think the Yankees move him by the tradedeadline regardless if not sooner. They eat what they have to and maybe get something small back in return.

I think were there is smoke there is fire and there has just been to much talk surrounding AJ and the Yankees interest in moving him.

While parking Burnett might well be in the best interest short term if they do there is no way they can ever trade him no matter how much of his salary they are willing to eat. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Burnett shows just enough in SP to get him his rotation spot.

He’d have to be pretty bad for them to just let him sit and watch 30+ mil go away.

I think Hughes has one option left. If so, he might well be the guy starting in AAA. At this point it’s time to push the issue with him to see if he is ever going to become the they thought he’d be.

Otherwise it might be Nova just because of his flexibility.

If Hughes gives the Yankees something close to what he gave them the 1st half of the 2010 when he was for the most part lights out. They will park AJ Burnett in a “No Parking Zone” and wait until he gets towed away. Either that or he will get “mop up” duty.

lol…wrong. Nova is in the rotation regardless. They can try to move AJ (good luck), would find it easier to move Freddy (don’t know if they will) and can easily move Hughes back into the pen (where he might belong anyways).

If all of these guys are still with the Yankees when the season starts, my guess is that Nova spends some time at AAA while they work it out. He is not so much better than the other options to make it worth dropping anyone for no return, thereby sacrificing the teams depth. SP depth is a valuable thing in itself.

Was there ever any doubt? I think he realized last years “lack” of a conditioning program cost him dearly. This year with the added compitition for a starting job he realized well in advance he had to do something. Now let’s all hope (or at least all Yankees fans) that it pays off once spring training and then the regular season starts. We’ll see.
