Kotchman also did a lot more of that “helping your team win games” thing, which matters a little bit in team sports.

BTW, LaPorta is 2 years younger, not 4. Could he be better going forward? Maybe. He was pretty good as a 24 year old at AAA.

You have to figure the scouts know more about him than we do, cause the fact that no one will give him a starting job when he’ll be making the minimum is telling.

Don’t bother signing free agents if they are not an upgrade. Sure, Kotchman batted .300, but but was a weak, hollow .300 with no power. Even with 200 more PA’s Kotchman hit less homers than LaPorta. Also, he is 4 years older so which one is more likely to improve at this point in their careers?
