When Chavez’ cancer finally catches up with him it’s going to be very rough going down there – I hate to say it but I foresee terrible violence and upheaval. He’s left in place nothing but competing centers of authoritarianism versus a very disorganized opposition. And there are guns all over the place.The worst part of it is, it’ll be a tempting scenario for the US to get itself involved on the premise that we have to protect the oil supply and, of course, blunt Chinese influence in the region. What a mess.

Although in this case I don’t have reason to disbelieve the general outline of the events, but I’m not surprised at all, that as amateurish as the kidnappers had appeared, they have apparently escaped and they’ve either rounded up only people indirectly involved, patsies, or innocent people who happened to be nearby.

Heck, just about any version is believable because in that country many insane things happen everyday.
