Arroyo had one bad season?

I assume you meant one good season that he parlayed into getting the Reds to overpay for his services.

If not for his contract he would have been gone a year ago.

Arroyo has 1 bad year due to his misuse by the reds and now they want to dump him?regardless of your saber stats until last year he was the redsmnost dependable pitcher. good for 200 innings and 15 wins a year. you knew you would get 6-7 solid innings with 1 lousy start a month. then last year he reports to camp with mono but the reds still thought it was a good idea to keep sending him out to get pounded every start because he was so weak from the mono. how smart is it to keep sending him to the mound and start each game 3 or 4 runs down?and the times he made it past 4 innings without giving 5 runs dusty would send him back out for 1 more where he would naturally give up the tying and go ahead runs. the guy could do nothing pitchers do on their off days because he was weak and tired sympyoms from the mono. it takes most people 6-8 weeks to recover from that and if you or I showed to work with it we would be sent home. but because of his contract they made him play? sure he did not want to not play but smart people would say you are going on the dl to you get your strength back. now they are going to use last year as an excuse to try and get rid of him?

I honestly have no idea, but is a general manager allowed to publicly comment about another player’s potential deal with another team? Lord knows Jocketty knows more about what you can say to the media than I do. But, you don’t see it too often.

walt won’t be to sign him because he is not a washed former cardinal willing to accept any offer to keep playing. if the “small” market reds are truly going all in this year then pay the man. by not extending Phillips or Votto it is either this year or bust for the team.

He’d be no higher than a #3 on the Reds, behind Latos/Cueto. Elsewhere, depends on the team.

Money’s a concern, but I’d worry more about Oswalt’s back. Back problems don’t get better with age.

Pretty sure Walt knows more than he’s letting on. His comment is a classic example of posturing. Act as if you’re not following it and have moved on so you have leverage if negotiations start back up.

Walt’s comment was made for Oswalt’s agent’s ears, not for ours.

Just curious, what number starter do most people think Roy would be? I believe he would still see himself as maybe a #2 starter, while teams are maybe looking at him as a #3 or 4, mostly due to age and missing some time last year. I think that is likely why he is still unsigned and can’t agree on a salary with a team.

While I realize that could change depending on what team he lands on, in general, where would most see him? 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 starter?

Walt needs to read HBT so he can get continuous updates on Oswalt’s trip to Arlington. I remember posts on everything Oswalt was doing except the details on his bathroom breaks. It’s kind of scary that readers here know more about Oswalt’s status than a major league GM.
