Baltimore trimmed reliever Clay Rapada from the 40-man roster this morning to make room for Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, so the 30-year-old left-hander is now looking for work via Twitter:
anybody need a lefty… lefty are 6-67 last two years… #justsayin
— Clayton Rapada (@pada5something) February 6, 2012
Rapada correctly notes that left-handed hitters were just 6-for-67 off him during the past two seasons, which is a remarkable .089 batting average. He smartly opted not to mention that right-handed hitters went 14-for-26 (.538) with four homers off him over that same span.
He’s a solid left-handed specialist, but Rapada will probably clear waivers and have to settle for a minor-league deal.

What is hoping to accomplish by this? Does he want one of us to pick him up on our Fantasy Team!!
I would offer as a response: “Pitch like a Major Leaguer, Stay a Major Leaguer. Enjoy the minors.”

Last I checked, a sub .100 average vs. lefties qualifies as “Pitch[ing] like a major leaguer”. Every team has at least 1 lefty specialist, I’d be shocked if all of them are better than this guy.

At first I thought he meant his record was 6-67. That would be impressive on a whole different level.

He’s left-handed, he can pitch a baseball, he can retire left-handed batters. He will find work.
