I get that you might think that Bailey has a brighter future. He’s been hyped for years, and shows occasional flashes of brilliance, but he also gets sent back down to the minors every year. I don’t know enough to say that he’s been mishandled by the reds, but they do employ dusty baker, so it seems likely that they’re screwing him up.

He might blossom into a solid #3 starter, but I don’t think it will be under the current regime.

No, not back in the day, TODAY Oswalt is still better than Bailey. Last year, injuries and all he was ERA+ 105 vs Baily’s ERA+ 88.

Some do speak openly about their interest (Texas, Florida, Boston) and some don’t (Cincinnati, Yankees, Detroit). The absurdity is that John Fay has been covering Jocketty and the Reds for four seasons and has NOT figured out that Jocketty always downplays his interest.

Back in the day sure. He’s old and injured, not to mention expensive and at this time, in the present, no longer better than Bailey.

This. The idea that a GM’s downplaying of a rumor is news is absurd. If the Reds are negotiating with him, the GM won’t blab it.

Bailey’s best ever ERA+ is 93. Oswalt’s worst ever is 100. He is much better than bailey.

There was too much pressure put on Bailey to be the savior of the franchise and brought him up too early. He got shelled early on and his confidence was shattered. If he doesn’t put it together this year or next, then I’d say he is what he is.

I will hate to see Homer go but it will be the best for his future to get a fresh start somewhere else. while he shares some of the blame for his inconsistency I feel the way the reds handeled is deveopment was a big part of it. how is he supposed to develop and become the pitcher they portrayed him when they sent him to the minors after every rough outing he had? then after a couple of good starts in the minors recall him until he gets knocked around again. contrast that with the way that let cueto and volquez pitch no matter how bad their starts were. Cueto learned how to bounce back and become a great pitcher because of that while volquez will never amount to anything at least he was given the chance.

Jocketty CONSTANTLY downplays his trade/free agent interest in available players to Fay, and Fay constantly believes it….see Ryan Madson from earlier this winter. Wake up John…..He’s fibbing to you!

I’d take the odds on Oswalt having one more 200 inning season. If so, he is a good deal for the money. Still rather see him at the Cards, but the Reds would benefit from never having to face him again.

As a Reds fan, I’m on the fence about this. So Walt will have to get rid of Bailey for this to happen for Oswalt who, let’s be honest, isn’t much better than Bailey at this point in his career. Both are injury prone but I’d take the 25 yr old who still could develope into something vs the 34 yr old with back problems who’s best days are behind him and not in front. There’s a reason he’s still on the market at getting low balled.

you probably could but unfortunatly dusty baker is the manager which means he will find some way to screw it up. I would go with Leake over chapman until he gets some seasoning in the minors. he needs to show he can go more than 5 innings on a consistant basis before they hand him a rotation spot. he also needs to show he can command that heat as well as his other pitches before they toss him out there.

Looks like the Reds are a little more interested then they initially lead people to believe. Seems to me to be good fit for them assuming they can work out the money issue. Like they say the “devils in the detail”.
