I'm not so sure Scrooge was directly involved in this. Beinfest and Samson run the day to day stuff, and I doubt if el Jefe wanted to be bothered with a measley couple of hundred grand when he's busy at the moment trying to waste a wad of money on Cespedes. If they do throw a pile of cash at him as opposed to a Matt Garza or a real third baseman, while nickel-and-diming the guys like Bonifacio who they need to perform optimally to have a chance in their very tough division, they'll deserve to watch the postseason from their living rooms yet again.

I'm a gonna say that those guys DO NOT learn. See they think they're smart and that they don't make mistakes. Its a mistake to diminish the recognizability of your star short stop, saddle your new stadium with a garish display, and a high maintenance gimmick like massive fishtanks around the infield. On the one side they diminish Reyes's worth while adding costs needlessly with the other stuff. Its entirely within the thinking of people who would do that to act jerky to a potential star and team standout by dragging contract talks to an arbitration hearing over a pittance.

You think they'd learn? This was over peanuts, relatively speaking, so what do they do but alienate a key player - a guy whose game is tailor made for the Brobdingnagian playing field dimensions they have imposed on themselves, and who busted his ass for them? Way to go, Chihuahua! And, um, isn't that a spot of mange on your flew?
