He didn’t succeed in his second stint with Dave Duncan and the Cardinals so there is little reason to believe he’ll make it back now. No one was ever going to mistake Suppan for Roger Clemons and it’s fair to say he got everything he could out of his natural abilities.

Plus, he gave one of the toughest and grittiest performances in game 7 of the NLCS when he got out of the one out, bases loaded jam in the sixth. For that game alone he’ll be remembered with fondness by Cardinal fans.

If he makes it to the majors with the Padres he at least will get the luxury of pitching in Petco Park. All it takes is an injury or 2 and he could be called up

If you didn’t crack the Royals rotation last year….you should probably hang it up.

But, I get it. I’d much rather play baseball on any organized level than you know, do what I do every do.

He may also enjoy the clubhouse culture and mentoring young guys….might be a way to essentially get some coaching experience, pitch, and get paid all at once.

Perhaps he’s just playing as long as he physically can – I’d imagine some guys just like to play regardless of anything else. Best of luck, Jeff!
