For inquiring minds. Should anyone be interested that will put the Red Sox 2012 payroll for MLB Luxury Tax purposes at just about $182.1MM +/-. That's assuming they do NOT have any other signings, none.

Randygnyc, it's good to know you have intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the Red Sox' front office and of David Ortiz' mind. Clearly the Red Sox resent David Ortiz and want to stick it to him in arbitration. After all, the front office always lets personal feelings dictate its moves.

$16.5M seems like a no brainer. Why would the sox let this get to this hearing after the numbers he put up and his salary earned, last year? Seems to me that they resent he accepted arbitration, knowing the sox were going to cut him loose. They may have been resigned to having to pay up for him and this is there last shot to stick it to him and get even at the hearing. Regardless, he could win the MVP this year and I'd bet there's no chance he plays for them next year. A burned bridge. Bad feelings. Could have aftershocks in that locker room this season.
