Actually it’s because after years of condoning rampant PED use in his league, Bud Selig decided he needed some sort of cudgel to beat the player’s union over the head with in the 2002 CBA negotiations, and here we are.

Also, what’s this business with being “though the steroid era”? Ryan Braun not ringing any bells?

Canseco is a rat, a clown, an idiot and a lier. He’s also got a history of violent behavior including against women. He is in other words a completely vial human being. I have no idea why anyone wants to see him anywhere outside of a prison.

I agree. How much fun would it be to see him pinch hit in a game this season? Just one time. Heck, how cool would it be if the A’s brought him back just for opening day, let him hit and then pulled him and cut him? Just let him get that one last chance to hit a MLB fastball. It would be one of the best stories of the year.

I’d go with “pathetic” for Canseco. Aside from his past as a wife-beater, bar-fight enthusiast and being generally one of the most hated men in baseball, Jose’s recent exploits have included:

-Posting his ex-girlfriends phone number on twitter and informing his followers she’s bang them for pot (apparently they’re back together now…how sweet?)
-Sending his twin brother to fight for him in a MMA match
-Asking lighting companies to trade him some chandeleers for a signed bat or two when he lost his after being evicted.
-Putting up an ebay auction for people to spend the day with him while he was on house arrest
-Apparently views himself as the Jesus of the baseball world: the wrongfully disputed, pure being of truth. Who then lashes out irrationally at everybody

You know…after reading that list, having Jose Canseco back in the folds of Major League Baseball would be extremely entertaining.

Bud Selig needs to throw him a little party and send him a gold watch or something. Maybe start sending him calendars with the birthdays of the younger major league players circled. The hints need to become increasingly less subtle, but Jose just doesn’t seem to be getting them.

I would LOVE it if Jose could get back into MLB. Regardless of what anyone thinks of him, he’s a physical freak of nature (even off the juice) and it would be an amazing/interesting story. EVERYBODY deserves a second chance. If he’s better than just ONE current player in MLB, then why the hell not.
