go away Roy. I would love to see this arrogant sob end up without a team or a fat payday. but some greedier owner will come to his rescue. the problem then becomes the fans of his new team. when he gets injured or underperforms. when will owners wake up and stop paying athletes who hold them up?

You know, I'm in a position to give Roy Oswalt grief for taking a long time to choose where him home will be for half a year, but seriously its ticking me off as a baseball fan that he's dragging this out the way he is. If another team pops up then it might have been worth it, but the story thus far has been "Sox have need, Oswalt doesn't want to be there" versus "Cardinals don't have need, Oswalt wants to pitch there". With pitchers and catchers starting to show up right about nowish, it'd really behoove him and either club that he chooses where he goes. I want him to go to the Sox, but more than anything I just kind of want this whole thing to go away.

I guess "By settling with David Ortiz moments before their arbitration hearing the Red Sox potentially saved $1.75 million compared to his requested salary". That's one way to look at it

Then there is "by settling with David Ortiz moments before their arbitration hearing the Red Sox potentially COST themselves $1.925 million compared to their submitted salary".

If they are entertaining signing Oswalt that would likely put the Red Sox 2012 Payroll for MLB Luxury Tax purposes at about $190MM +/-. That would put their Luxury Tax bill at about $5MM when it's time to pay MLB. The only time the Red Sox had a higher Luxury Tax bill was in 2007 when they sent MLB a check for $6.06MM
