Now now…I wouldn’t say that. He has had some troubles but still played better than many other players. He was and still is one of the best players in the past 10 years. He’s 38, not 88.
where will you be in 10 years??

My guess is that his pride/ego doesn’t want to see himself get cut. He likely figures that if he is getting guaranteed money that he won’t get cut, even if he isn’t doing that well. According to baseball-reference, he has made over $133 million in his career. So, it is possible that it is less about money and more about having a guaranteed spot so that he doesn’t get cut and/or spend time in the minors.
