Quote of the Day: David Price would like a contract extension

Feb 15, 2012, 11:00 AM EST

David Price

Joe Maddon’s contract extension is official. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times got a reaction from David Price about it:

“Joe is a players’ manager and I love playing for him. I’m happy he got an extension. My turn.”

Probably is, what with Price being on the arbitration train. He’s due $4.35 million this year, and if the Rays don’t lock him up long term, he’s going to get hella expensive in arbitration pretty quickly.

Of course, given how team-friendly the Rays’ extensions of their young players have been thus far (Longoria, 6yrs, , Price may want to be careful of what he wishes for.

If not, I can think of a large city on the Texas Gulf Coast that could use his services for a competitive price. We’ll see if Tampa Bay can low ball him.

Although I am of two minds, especially for a pitcher. You may leave money on the table, but it doesn’t take much of that money to make you set for life. And arm problems can come quickly.

Craig, you’re not from the west coast from the early oughts. Less usage of ‘hella’ makes the world a much much better place.

do my eyes deceive me or dis you just say hella? I must have woken up in NorCal

Painful use of “hella.” Add my vote to the two above. Please, never again. Painful. I feel like I’m BART coming back from a Giants game. “Timmy was hella good today. The Giants will never lose again”. Kill me now.
