I was 35 when the Kid came to the Mutts, probably already jaded in lots of respects, but the guy became a bonafide hero of mine. The sadness and sense of loss I feel today couldn’t be any more poignant if it had all happened when I was twelve years old.

He was one of those HOF players who really enjoyed playing the game, and had the proven ability to elevate both the Expos and Mets. A true winner, both on and off the field.
