Hu’s on First

Feb 16, 2012, 9:40 AM EDT

If you spend some time on the Internets, you’ve probably seen this fun picture floating around:

Clever.  But PeteyHendrix at Red Reporter has taken it to the next level and has come up with an entire re-imagining of the old Abbott and Costello routine based on it. It starts a bit slow, but stick with it, because it gets good.

And someone at MLB Network or someplace: pay PeteyHendrix for the rights to it and then produce it with a couple of guys with good comic timing, OK?

Unusual occurence for Hu to get to first base, was he pinchrunning?

That’s 5 minutes of my life that I can never get back. Can’t wait until spring training starts!

Seriously? Do you hate joy and whimsy?

      • babych99 - Feb 16, 2012 at 10:57 AM

Big fan of the original, some things are best left as they were. No need to reimagine a classic!

Things can exist side-by-side and be equally fun. I love the original too, and this gave me an excuse to go watch it again. So, it’s funny and it does good work.

Listen, I don’t think anyone here is saying it’s as good as the original.
And, it probably would not make the cut for posting during the season.
AND it took Abbott and Costello YEARS to hone that bit (btw, they had literally scores of variations of the bit, and could tailor it to the length they needed on a dime!) and this guy probably wrote it in a few hours – but it’s still an effort of love, so let’s just let the baseballiciousness waft over us…

        Pitchers and catchers!

The pay off for all of that is a Coco Crisp joke!? PeteyHendrix has waaaay to much time on his hands.

  5. Gamera the Brave - Feb 16, 2012 at 10:31 AM

That took some thought – pretty funny.

The one he left out was Reece is the short stop

You have a candy playing the field too?

    Our short stop is Pokey

I thought they are supposed to be quick?

    Well ours is Pokey

He must be a terrible fielder

    no he’s at first

The fielder at first is terrible

    That’s third base

Candy Maldonado playing SS? He was an outfielder.

That was great. Definitely an excellent modernization of that routine.
