It’s possible, but not certain, that Geovany Soto is in The Best Shape of His Life

Giants Cubs Baseball

I have to put a caveat on this report from Carrie Muskat at MLB.com:

It’s all a matter of balance for Cubs catcher Geovany Soto. He’s working on better balance in his diet, which should help Soto keep off the 25 pounds he dropped this offseason.

The caveat being that he lost 40 pounds prior to the 2010 season.  As Muskat reports, though, his diet wasn’t nearly as balanced then, though, so he may actually be in better shape now. And of course, we don’t know how many of those 25 pounds were some of the same pounds he lost when he dropped those 40.

So, what say you BSOHL star chamber? Does Soto qualify, or not?

First Cub in the BSOHL if I’m not mistaken, yes?

Maybe he gets a spring training invite, but has to work to make the team?

Ughhhh so borderline. Maybe we can track down the judge in the Indians/White Sox thing? I think this calls for an official ruling…

The BSOHL drinking game is getting very dangerous..

He IS making the BSOHL logo pose in the photo, FWIW.

I don’t think a changed diet alone qualifies. Motion Denied, with leave to amend if evidence of a revamped off-season workout can be found.

    Soto’s OPS+ by season since 2008:

    2008 – 118
    2009 – 80
    2010 – 135
    2011 – 96

Extrapolating, that means he’ll put up an OPS+ around 150 this season.*
