While I would love the Braves to win their division I just can’t see them taking it this year over Philly. Maybe next year. Also you have the Rangers missing the playoffs even if there are two WC spots? Bold call.

Time will tell on that. I find it interesting that the Yankees passed on 2 former Yankees in favor of Ibanez. They know what both Damon and Matsui can do and decided to go in a different direction.

Ibanez batting anywhere in the lineup is not “pretty good”. If he was a defensive whiz, he might be an average regular….but being a horrible hitter and bringing no added value will make him one of the worst players in the league next year. Last year he had the lowest WAR of anyone in MLB. How is being 40 supposed to help that? Damon was a much better player last year….and most likely will be (if he gets a job) this year as well.

I’ll believe Ramiro Pena is out of the mix when I see it. I’ve never seen a weaker-hitting, shoddy-fielding player get more love from a team than him. I just don’t get it.

I would have much rather had Abreu than Ibanez, but AJ saw to it that Abreu wasn’t coming back to the Yankees. It was in his deal that he couldn’t be dealt to the west coast. I think even Damon would have been a better choice than Ibanez, at least the Yankees have freed themselves of AJ, thank God.

/whatever… The core for all the AL contenders Is the same as last year except for two huge signings in Anaheim and Detroit so I am going to spare all of us some drama from caring about these role players anymore over the next 9 months:

AL Central – Tigers win division with best record in the AL
AL West – Texas and Anaheim finish 1 and 2, with the second place team taking the AL Wild Card. Not sure who actually takes division though. Too close to call.
AL East – Yanks take the division over the sox and Rays because they are still built for a better record over 162 games, just not a playoff run.

Tigers and Angels make it to ALCS.
Tigers go to series and beat the Phillies because they have way more offense and Verlander outpitches Haladay twice.

AL MVP: Cano
AL CY YOUNG: Verlander

Yep, very good lineup. With Ibanez batting in the 6-8 spot thats pretty good…hopefully everyone stays healthy. The only concern I have is its an older lineup thats going to require some rest along the way.
