I have to agree with generic. If the person they sign to be the “left handed” DH ends up playing the field…we are in DEEP ****, and how well Johnny Damon throws, Hideki Matsui “runs” etc etc will be the very LEAST of NYY concerns. While I like the idea of adding Chavez again, the platoon DH theory has a bit of a flaw. Correct me if I’m wrong but A-Rod, Jeter…both righties like Jones. Also, If I recall correctly, the biggest fall of from Texeira is in his lefthand production. Really NEED a productive LH bat to DH. imho of course.

I guess you’ve never seen a Damon “throw”. I love the guy and his contributions when he was in the Bronx, but I think the average person could kick a ball into the infield better than his average throw. The Bombers have the offense, so they should sign Chavez for the versaltility and as a “defensive” player. The other player signed should be: Catcher #1 priority (or promote Romine because Cervelli couldn’t throw out your Gandmama…Promoting Romine this year would be smart so he can learn how to frame pitches from Russell Martin, the master) , Infield #2 (because Pena and Nunez’s hands are apparently made of granite), and outfield #3 (defensively we’re good here). With the pitching improved, and returning an awesome offense, defensive replacements should be the priority. Damon, Matsui, Ibanez, and/or Vlad add almost nothing to the team.

This is weird, at some point last season I thought Ibanez was the worst LF in the League, Damon must REALLY be awful if Yankee Management prefers Ibanez over Damon because of Defense.

If a platoon DH is needed to throw, they have more problems than that.

The LH DH should not be playing the field at all. So defense should not matter. OF= Gardner, Grandy, Swish, Andruw. If they need a 5th OF they have plenty of AAAA types. That covers OF. Chavez covers IF reserves. The LH DH should be able to hit righties. That’s about it. That’s why Yanks weren’t playing Matsui in the field in 2009 or Posada last year, and didn’t re-sign Matsui or Damon in the first place- they knew they had no defensive value and no need for them in the field.

buffalo… you might as well get used to Arod for the next five or so years. The Yankees were lucky to get rid of A.J.’s contract, but there won’t be a takers for Arod. The best hope is he gets on track and hits somewhat like he used to because he’s not going anywhere. That being said, David Wright is a nice thought.
