I keep hearing all this “weak division” stuff, and I wonder which two teams were in the NLCS last year.

StL is better (at least on paper). Pitching should be much more solid and the middle of the order is still strong. Age and depth are their issues. Milwaukee took a hit, but they have a lot of talent. Cincy, too.

This whole “the AL East is where baseball is played” narrative is looking a little threadbare of late.

I won’t be surprised at all to see a big first half from AJ. No pressure in a weak division. Plus, he’s got the f@ck you factor. In fact, it’s not a stretch to imagine that he’ll be the pirates rep for the all-star game. Wonder if he gets traded again into a pressure cooker at the deadline then.

The park and league adjustments should drop his ERA by about 0.80, but that doesn’t make him a better pitcher.

The Cardinals also had a big loss with the departure of Tony LaRussa, who will be in Cooperstown one day. And the replacement is someone who has never managed before, which is asking for trouble. I think the Cards win 85-88 games this season, and probably miss the playoffs.

A part of me will miss rooting for Burnett, simply because he always seemed like he tried and cared. That said, his infuriating inconsistency will not be missed. The Yanks would not have won without him in 2009 though, so he’ll always have that.

I wish him the best in Pittsburgh.

That is true but I would be surprised he stayed healthy, Pujols leaving akes Joey Votto the best 1B in the division and makes the Reds the favorite…in my opinion anyway

In fairness to the Cardinals, they get one of the top fifteen or so pitchers in baseball back this year, and Carlos Beltran is a very solid addition for them if he stays healthy. That doesn’t completely offset losing Pujols, but it helps quite a bit.

That division isnt lousy? Brewers and Cards lost there best players and Chicago is way too young and inexperienced to compete for a couple years, Houston is well…Houston, the Reds are probably the best team so…….

He should pitch better in that lousy division but without the run support if he doesnt get his era down (which he should in a lousy division) his record wont show it

Should be a good pickup. PNC is a pitchers ballpark and NL Central is relatively weak.
