Picture of the Day: Thanks for the $240 million!

Feb 20, 2012, 4:51 PM EST

Albert Pujols‘ arrival at Angels camp was kind of a big deal and amid all the hoopla Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com snapped this picture of Pujols shaking hands with the man who gave him $240 million, Arte Moreno. (Moreno, incidentally, bought the Angels in 2003 … for $184 million.)

He’s too embarassed to look him in the eye?

    • ss - Feb 20, 2012 at 5:29 PM

You know what happens when you take in the The Almighty with mortal eyes?

That’s right. Your Nazi face melts off. I thought everyone knew this.

Why is Albert at camp already?

    • paperlions - Feb 20, 2012 at 5:26 PM

Albert always showed up to camp early, when pitchers and catcher did…or earlier.

I knew this day would come and the feelings of anger aimed at Bill Dewitt last December would resurface….for a while at least..

    • paperlions - Feb 20, 2012 at 5:28 PM

Dude, you can get through this. Think of it like a divorce that caught you totally by surprise. Yeah, it might have sucked for a year or two….or three…whatever….but eventually you’ll realize that you are happier without all that drama/BS (in this case, the albatross contract that causes the roster to be chock full of holes).

      • okwhitefalcon - Feb 20, 2012 at 5:44 PM

I’m almost there, flashback moments of anger will occasionally happen but diminish as time goes by I suppose.

Not saying they won’t increase with intensity/frequency if the Molina thing plays out this year then Wainwright the next, all bets are off then!

I’ll save my tirades of betrayal for later on both of the above, time to go lace ‘em up and defend now.

        Winning cures alot, ya know?

      • paperlions - Feb 20, 2012 at 7:05 PM

Yeah, if Molina goes to the Angels next year, it’ll be like she took your dog in the divorce….just the lowest of low blows. (Please realize that I hold dogs in the highest esteem and that the best a person can hope for is to behave as honestly and sincerely as dogs do.)

Kinda like the cold hearted head of the household left the door open too long and the beloved family pet got tired of waiting around for dinner and high-tailed it to someone who’d feed him better.

      • paperlions - Feb 20, 2012 at 7:56 PM

        Okay….that was funny (and sad).

  4. pisano - Feb 20, 2012 at 5:45 PM

I’ve got a feeling Arte won’t be too happy five years down the road. It was a bad business move to give out a 10 yr. contract to any player. Time will tell.

  5. kalinedrive - Feb 20, 2012 at 6:10 PM

If you look at someone when you shake his hand, you might not end up just giving him your ring finger to shake.

  6. imaduffer - Feb 20, 2012 at 6:45 PM

And Albert hits into another inning ending double play.

    • t16rich - Feb 20, 2012 at 7:31 PM

      Kiss his rings.

  7. tacklemeelmo - Feb 20, 2012 at 9:01 PM

Either that’s one awkward handshake or Albert is getting sized for his next ring…

  8. rcali - Feb 20, 2012 at 9:56 PM

Where’s the picture of the fan paying $15 for a beer to pay for that contract?

    • nategearhart - Feb 21, 2012 at 10:55 AM

By “fan” you mean Fox, by “$15″ you mean $3 billion, and “beer” means TV deal, right?
