Tom Haudricourt is in Brewers camp, and he spoke with the man who is tasked with replacing Prince Fielder: Mat Gamel.
What say you, Mat? Feel up to the task?
Gamel is focused on the opportunity at hand to replace Prince Fielder. “I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m excited about my opportunity.”

Ahhh, music to my ears. Music to my ears.

No real changes, we still have way too many Corner Infielders, and no outfielders…does that imply that Outfielders are in good shape year-round and 1B are fat lazy slobs?
3B: Longoria, Moustakas, McGehee, Valencia
1B: Cabrera , Teixera, Butler, Alonzo, Freeman, Smoak, Young, Gamel, Davis
SS: Lowrie
Middle Infielders who shouldn’t really be anywhere near SS: Tejada, Hall
C: Martin, Molina, Olivo
CF: Guitierrez, Fowler
R/LF: Heyward, CespedesEveryone else is a pitcher, or a minor leaguer
Team 1
CF – Guitierrez
RF – Heyward
3B – Longoria
DH – Cabrera
1B – Teixera
LF – Cespedes
SS – Lowrie
C – Martin
2B – HallS1 – Garcia
S2 – McCarthy
S3 – Hughes
S4 – Zambrano
S5 – Cecil
CL – WilsonTeam 2
CF – Fowler
3B – Moustakas
DH – Butler
1B – Alonzo
‘LF’ – Freeman
‘RF’ – Smoak
C – Molina
’2B’ – Valencia – yes, I’d rather have him there than McGehee
“SS” – TejadaS1 – Tillman
S2 – Swarzak
‘S3′ – Padilla

I’m not sure if this helps or hurts Kopy’s BSOHL roster. Kid hasn’t had enough PA’s to know any thing about him as a hitter.

I wish the title of this story was “Mat Gamel is in the best position of his life to make adjustments to major league pitching and advanced scouting”.

The Brewers are not 100% convinced, as they announced that Corey Hart will work out at first base this spring.

And they have Travis Ishikawa. And Aramis Ramirez may get moved to 1st to make room for Taylor Greene at third. I know they’re going to work out Hart at 1st but I can’t really understand why. Hes a good defender in right so why do you want to take him out of right and throw him into the corner infield game of musical chairs.

Hey’d play Hart at 1B because he was drafted as a 1B so he knows the position a little. Obviously its been a while though. And there’s been no talk of Ramirez playing first and he hasn’t played there ever as far as I know. Its also easier to find an outfielder than a decent 1B. And the Brewers have plenty of outfielders anyways.

Mat Gamel has murdered minor league pitching but sunk like a stone at the next level…in very limited at bats. Still could be a great hitter, but needs a really strong spring training.
