Quote of the Day: “Si, Motherf****r”

Feb 22, 2012, 9:19 AM EDT

Buster Olney watched Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder take batting practice.  They sound like they’re having a lot of fun:

When Cabrera took his turns in the box, he carved long liners to right field, over and over, shouting to the others to guess whether they would clear the fence.

“SI OR NO?” Cabrera yelled. “SI OR NO? SI OR NO?”

When the ball would land on the other side of the chain-link fence, Cabrera punctuated the drive this way: “SI, M———–.”

If that isn’t on a t-shirt with Detroit Tigers colors being sold by a Tigers blogger by the end of the day the Internet has failed.

Somebody please press those shirts up

  2. koufaxmitzvah - Feb 22, 2012 at 9:33 AM

But will the blogger be ballsy enough to spell the whole thing it out?

    • cur68 - Feb 22, 2012 at 11:29 AM

Since Craig’s girlfriend is the blogger in question that this part of the post was likely directed at, then no, no balls at all…unless Craig’s badly mislead us.

Nothing brings out the family atmosphere in Detroit like a bunch of cool guys walking around Comerica Park with “Si, Motherf**ker” shirts on!!!!

    • Jonny 5 - Feb 22, 2012 at 9:40 AM

At CBP they were making people turn their shirts inside out because they said “eat shift”. LAME! i’d assume the same for this one.

That would be a good time to explain to the spawn that words on cool kid’s shirts at the ballpark, and the words that grandpa says should not be uttered at school, church or office, or in front of their mother.

I’m pucturing a Jumbotron “Si, M______F____r” logo playing and flashing every time Cabrera homers this season.

    • cur68 - Feb 22, 2012 at 11:50 AM

By a factor too high to calculate, this would be a display in better taste, with more relevance, and better received than what the Miami Marlins plan to do after their home team homers. Its got my vote.

A Tigers fan has been selling those shirts for weeks online. Just needed a reason.

  6. El Bravo - Feb 22, 2012 at 10:43 AM

Another team I can’t wait to watch in action…at least that gives me a reason to hit the Cell this season.

  7. detroitr1 - Feb 22, 2012 at 10:44 AM

The current team marketing slogan is ‘Always a Tiger.’ Using this quote on t-shirts would pay for Fielder.

  8. APBA Guy - Feb 22, 2012 at 12:32 PM

Based on the video from Joker Marchant yesterday (what a name!) Cabrera and Prince are REALLY having fun. Woe unto the AL Central if both these guys stay healthy and the back end of the Tigers rotation performs at AL average or better.

MLB is already positioning itself to prevent distribution of these shirts as it was a phrase made by one of their players on one of their fields during one of their practices as is therefore their copyrighted property.

    • The Baseball Idiot - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:07 PM

Or how about just because it’s inappropriate.

Don’t kids have enough problems growing up in the world without teaching them that wearing profanity (whether or not it’s actually spelt out) is in poor taste.

And yeah, I know this is mostly whimisical thinking and a joke, except for the idiots who take it seriously.

Things like this are not good for our children.

    Breaking News…

    “Si, Motherfucker” Tshirts now available:

    • koufaxmitzvah - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:40 PM

To be truly authentic, it needs the upside down exclamation point before the Si. Otherwise, nice try, gringo.

      • cur68 - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:52 PM

I’m getting one. I can correct that punctuation deficiency with a sharpie. ¡Si!

      • koufaxmitzvah - Feb 22, 2012 at 3:01 PM

No one in Canada would notice. But here in Central TX, I’d be laughed out of every self-respecting Tex-Mex breakfast taco joint. No can do, Monsieur.

  11. humanexcrement - Feb 22, 2012 at 2:51 PM

Say what you want to about these guys, they seem to genuinely enjoy each other’s company. It’s like when Abbot met Costello…except they’re both fat.
