I wonder how much crow John Henry had to eat to apologize to Crawford. Here’s a guy worth probably a billion dollars who just paid a guy a $142,000,000 to hit .254 with a .289 OBP and .694 OPS

Maybe so, but owners don’t generally get rid of themselves in deference to their general managers, you know? That kind of behavior would reduce late capitalist civilization to rubble – not that it isn’t on the way there anyway, mind you, but at an exponentially increased rate at the very least.

You usually have good reasons for your comments. Why do you think that of Henry? I mean, I detest the guy because of his posturing and bullshitting and ultimate apostasy here in Macondo, but still, it’s not like he’s the post-Johns Hopkins transgendering clinic’s answer to Marge Schott or anything.

I think he was sorry about publically stating that he did want Crawford. Also, Henry’s reasoning was that the team was already too left handed not that Crawford wasn’t a good player. And, he couldn’t have been that adamant about it, after all, he signed off on a huge contract.

Henry should have apologized because coming out and saying what he did was not only stupid but pointless too. There was no advantage to be gained or point to made. This has the potential to be a tag line for every time Crawford does anything whether it’s good or bad for the rest of the time he’s with the RS. Imagine Crawford get the game winning hit in game 7 of he WS and the announcers pointing that the owner didn’t even want to sign him. Not to mention it’s more than a bit cheesy when the OWNER distances himself like that. For a guy that owns several teams in team sports that is a profound lack of leadership.

And,for the record, .. Crawford isn’t likely to steal 47 bases ever again now that he can’t run on Capt Sucker Punch for 19 games a year, .. unless some other AL east team is stupid enough to give Varitek a starting catchers job.

Am I the only person who went from having no opinion about Red Sox ownership to actively disliking John Henry in the course of one offseason? Between the childish leaking of Beers and Birds-Gate, the way they handled everything with Theo, and now trying to spin it as if they won’t completely blow the team up if they don’t make the playoffs – I’m thinking J.H. surrounds himself with a lot of Yes Men.

It’s cute that someone in the Red Sox’ publicity office believes fans are naive enough to think that there’s totally no hard feelings about the team owner saying he didn’t want their expensive free agent OF. I mean, the words “I’m sorry” are magic & practically make it like it never happened! Issue totally over.
