Matt Moore was slated to throw batting practice this morning, but instead the 22-year-old phenom will be out for at least a couple days with what the Rays are calling a “lower abdominal strain.”

Moore described the injury as “like a sore muscle … basically right below my belly button” and said sitting things out is merely precautionary this early in camp, but the strain has apparently bothered him since throwing Friday.

He was able to play catch on both Saturday and Sunday, and for now is hoping to take his next scheduled batting practice turn Wednesday. Moore was also quick to say that it’s not an oblique strain, which is definitely good news given how long those can linger.

It wont stop this kid from being a 15-game winner this season, im so stoked to see how good this rotation really is, Shields-Price-Hellickson or Hell Boy as I like to call him-Moore-Nieman/Davis/Cobb….wow
I still miss my main man Garza thou but I cant complain with the great moves our front office is able to do with $100. GO RAYS!!!

Its not about what they do with the $$, it’s about drafting quality young pitching. These guys are all young and cheap because they were drafted. Now if they can build a fan base down here in fantasy land, maybe they can keep them and sustain winning.

Matt Moore seems like the nice young ingenue of Rays Republic. I hope he’s not sullied by nefarious clubhouse types like Luke Scott.
