I don’t see what the big deal is. He wants his young SS to be a leader and put in the extra effort. So what if he told the media. He wasn’t saying he hates his starting SS or anything like that. Gerry is looking for someone to lead by example other than David wright. Maybe there’s a reason this mets team goes nowhere and terry Collins is trying to light a fire.

I have no problem with a manager wanting more out of his players. But if you want them there early, tell them. Don’t tell someone to show up on Tuesday and get mad that he showed up on Tuesday instead of Sunday.

Unless there’s something that the public doesn’t know about, like Ruben having a particularly short leash from something happening last year and he was specifically told that he should show up early, Terry Collin’s is a dick and probably doesn’t deserve to be an MLB manager. I don’t think I’ve seen a manager be as hard on a player as this in spring EVER.

What about the other 39 players on the roster and the non-roster invitees? Is he holding each and every one of them to this standard?

They must have all reported early, otherwise we’d definitely be hearing about how disappointed he is in them as well.
