What’s the club really going to do if they bring their own beer? Fine them? Suspend them? Put a written reprimand in their personnel file?

Which means that the union will then file a grievance on the player’s behalf. Which means that it will put the Weinstein in a position of keeping his mouth shut, or advocating the use of alcohol by players after the game.

Which will be a lot of fun, because 90% of the posters hear would put in the position of climbing down off of their high horse and disagreeing with the union about something. That will cause heads to explode.

What will be even more fun (if that happens) is that the same posters will then be put in the position of admitting that a club (read: MLB) is doing something positive to curb drinking while the union isn’t, thereby making MLB look better than the union.

That could cause the internet to melt down.

If there really is a God, he’ll let this happen.

Really? Francona is surprised this is a PR move? Of course it’s a PR move! I literally can’t see any other reason that the Sox would make a public announcement regarding this, if not for PR. Frankly, when do the Sox release a statement on any of their operations if not for PR?

Maybe I’m a little bit jaded because my business is marketing, but come on now. Terry Francona saying that this is “a PR move”, is in of itself, his own PR move.

The red sox did Francona dirty. He took the fall for grown men acting like children. He’s supposed to get fired for that. Just not that way. Sox ownership also floated stories that he was addicted to pills and lived all year in a motel. I hope Francona exacts his revenge this year, but not at the expense of getting another job in a MLB dug out.

It’s not going to matter what they ban in the clubhouse, Bobby Valentine being hired was a P.R. move. As a Yankees fan I respected Mr. Francona, had the pleasure of meeting him when I returned from my 3rd tour in Iraq, a decent man, being followed by an indecent one, who works for a BS organization. Mr. Francona did what so many managers FAILED to do in Boston, he won, twice. BSPN got aValentine hired, and I can’t wait until they get him fired, Valentine is a joke, just like all the other coaches, managers, etc., that they “helped” to get jobs. Stay classy Mr. Francona.

Never mind that one extra win against the Orioles would have prevented any of that from going down.

Or the Yanks, up 7-0 in the 8th against TB, hadn’t pulled almost all their starters and let the Rays come back in win.

“Normally you hear a guy in Francona’s position takes the diplomatic approach regarding such things.”

And, normally a team that cans a manager doesn’t go out of their way to throw their ex-manager under the bus either. Especially an ex-manager that was at the helm when they won two WS and their first in 86 years.

The great RS beer and chicken scandal of 2011 lives on!! Of course it’s a PR move. It’s also yet another example of the RS completely mishandling the damage control from last year’s September tanking.

If one truly believes that a little take out and beer in the club house by starters that didn’t have a chance of playing on the days it occurred was the cause for the RS epic tanking then explain why that between the their horrendous start and even more horrendous September, a period when the RS played some pretty good baseball, the beer and chicken crew where not having a detrimental effect team play or team cohesiveness. Unless the nefarious poultry and brew consumption started on Labor Day weekend the ill affects from this deviant behavior would have to had an earlier impact team play.

The fact is that this is another example of the RS rationalizing the failure of the teams historic failure. And, if they truly thought that beer drinking in the clubhouse was a significant issue why wait to ban it? Why draw it out? Again, .. the RS have mismanaged the damage control from last September’s failure and this PR move is the late4st installment. But it is funny, .. sort of like a 5 moth long “Who on First?” routine.

If the clubhouse guys can get HGH and Greenies for the players I can’t imagine they would have trouble tracking down a sixer of Schlitz Ice. Somewhere Josh Beckett wheezes a sigh of relief.

Yesterday, there was a poster who claimed to have spent 6 years in the Red Sox club house (probably as a player) who wrote that it would be easy to bribe club house employees to smuggle in beer. Obviously Francona agrees that if a player wants a beer in the club house, he will find a way to have one.
