There was a fire at Fenway Park today

Fenway Fire

This is a wicked pissah: From the Twitter feed of the Boston Fire Department: there was fire at 4 Yawkey Way today. That’s Fenway Park to you and me.

It was a small one, however. An electrical fire due to a wall-mounted light fixture on the second floor of the mail room of the administrative offices. Archival photos were stored there. They’re unsure if any photos were damaged. They are saying that there was probably $30,000 worth of smoke/water damage, however.  The fire trucks are all gone now. UPDATE: the damage estimate has risen to $100,000.  Must have got one of John Henry’s suits.

Curse the Boston Fire department for being so thorough and informative in their tweets.  Totally killed any chance for us to make “deep fryer fire in the clubhouse” jokes.

I can’t wait for the Globe story blaming Terry Francona for the fire…

  2. anotheryx - Feb 27, 2012 at 1:05 PM

    I didn’t do it.

Hasn’t Theo moved out of his office yet?

Man…. i had no idea beer had enough alcohol in it to actually flame a fire.

That’s what happens when you make beer can chicken on the barbecue.

The Curse of the Fenway Fire. 100 years till they win the next World Series.

The Red Sox clearly did make some changes this offseason. Usually they wait until September to go down in flames..

      Brilliant.

  8. frankvzappa - Feb 27, 2012 at 1:24 PM

That is nothing. You guys should have seen what the place looked like after Phish played there. Nothing good ever comes from nitrous tanks lining the sidewalk, especially on Yawkey.

Also I am pretty sure even the fire department couldn’t have put out all the fine herbs being smoked.

Insert lame, unfunny, overplayed “beer and chicken” joke here.

    • bloodysock - Feb 27, 2012 at 1:50 PM

If they still allowed beer at Fenway, the fire would have been doused more quickly.

    • phukyouk - Feb 27, 2012 at 2:07 PM

So this chicken walks into a bar and pulls up a stool and orders a beer. the Bartender pours him a cold on and he instantly grows 6 inches taller. he has another one and grows another 6 inches. the morel of the story is that beer makes your co*k grow bigger.

your thumbs down are meaningless to me.. he specifically said to enter bad jokes here, so i did

      • cur68 - Feb 27, 2012 at 4:59 PM

        No worries, ‘youk: I laughed.

A fire at Atlanta Fulton County stadium some 18.5 years ago lead to good things.

Being a Red Sox fan…I think I can safely say that this may be the only fire they have there this season.
