Exactly my point…..one in 11 years is as misleading as five in the last 15. With the Red Sox, you can say two in 96 years or two in the last eight years. If you pick your years carefully, you can skew the stats.

The original arguments were about spending and its correlation to winning titles. There is a correlation, but it’s not absolute.There was a year in the late 1990s when the Orioles and Dodgers had the highest payrolls in each league and neither made the playoffs.

In the free agency era, the Yankees have won seven titles. That sounds like it means that spending works, but I could argue that money played a huge role in the 1977, 1978 and 2009 titles, but that the four they won in the 1990s was more a result of a good farm system.

It’s actually not that stocked anymore after trading Montero. More like an average farm system.

But obviously you’d rather have an average farm system and Pineda than a well-stocked one. So yeah, agreed: he’s working pretty hard. Has had a great offseason so far.

They spend a bunch, but also take in more revenue than any other team. At least teams like the Yankees, Sox, Cards, Phils spend. There are MLB teams that make pretty good revenue and don’t spend anything on improving.

By that logic any team that hasn’t won a WS has completely wasted their salaries. They might as well have taken all that salary money, .. put it in a big pile and set it on fire.

The only team with three WS since 1980 are the Cards, and there are 5 teams with two WS. They aren’t spending as much but they are getting less ROI too.

At a minimum the Yankees are getting their money’s worth.

Yeah, if you pick your years correctly. You could also say once in the last 11 years which is third behind Boston and St. Louis. I could also argue that the four they won in the 1990s were a direct result of Steinbrenner’s suspension. Without his meddling, the team acquired and later developed a core group of home grown players that was among the best of all time.
