Getty Images Or the freakiest. Guy is like 5’10″. How this can work is somewhat perplexing:
Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney put on 20 pounds of muscle over the winter to try to avoid the second-half slump he experienced last year in his first full season. ”I’m a little bit overwhelmed from watching him (while coaching in Milwaukee),” manager Dale Sveum said. “He’s a lot stronger and a lot quicker than I thought.
Because we all know how well that works.
Oh well. He has two home runs in 656 major league plate appearances. Let’s see if he can double that this year.

Does this fall under his natural selection/survival of the fittest theory?

foodstamp – depending on the substance, doseage, etc…someone could easily use PEDs on a regular basis and not add noticeable size. If someone’s trying to be inconspicuous about thier usage, this is exactly what they’d do. Yeah it’s a cheapshot at Braun to say Barney was hanging out with him this winter, just b/c Barney added some muscle. Braun’s inviting cheap shots with his defiant behavior – there are people, like myself, who believe he used PEDs – at the same time I can live with him not being punished b/c it seems as though proper procedure was not followed. That’s debateable too, obviously.
BTW – ESPNChicago has a story about how some Cubs players have mentioned the collector has always been a professional when taking samples from them. Barney was not one of the players in the piece.
